This Week In Jams (TWIJ) is a sequenced weekly playlist featuring songs I think my friends (and future friends like you đ) may want to hear.
This weekâs playlist features some of my favorite songs from Harry's excellent new album as well as songs I think Harry would love to listen to or cover one day.
Press play and take a trip with me as I walk through select tracks included on this playlist.
Update: If youâre seeing this post now, This Week In Jams has been refreshed. No need to fear, you can find this particular playlist here:
HARRYâS HIGHLIGHTS
Part One: Music For a Sushi RestaurantđŁ
Long time TWIJ listeners will know that my one of my key rules for playlist/album sequencing is to always start with a banger. Thankfully, someone in Harryâs house understood the assignment making it an easy choice to start my playlist.
Another fun fact about this song:
"I was in a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles with my producer and one of our songs came on from the last album, and I kind of said, like, 'This is really strange music for a sushi restaurant,' and then I was like, 'Oh, that would be a really fun album title,'" Harry told NPR. "And then as this song started being made, I kind of just said "Music at a Sushi Restaurant.""
I canât find the exact comment but I remember some Redditor saying something like: âwow harry styles was in a restaurant and got so inspired by hearing his own song he made a new one. legend.â
âAbout Damn Timeâ - Lizzo
One of the difficult things about starting with an energetic song is following it up! While I was one month behind on hearing Lizzoâs new track âAbout Damn Time,â I thankfully heard it one day before finalizing this playlist (see what I did there). Not only does this song sustain the energy from our opening track, but Harry and Lizzo are connected, with Harry covering and has covering and performing âJuiceâ with Lizzo!
âSecrets (Your Fire)â - Magdalena Bay
I broke one of my TWIJ playlist rules by featuring a song twice, but it is my rule so I can break it dammit! Also, this was my #6 song of 2021 so Iâm gonna include it on every relevant TWIJ until it becomes a Billboard hit!
âDoes It Feel Realâ - Kid Bloom
File this under: if Harry put this on his album no one would bat an eye and it would be a chart-topping hit (are you sensing a theme??)! Also, listen to Kid Bloom! Iâm sure there will be more TWIJ features in the years to come from him.
Part Two: Cinema
While everyone is talking about âCinemaâ as an Olivia Wilde song Iâm in the corner like âOMG I KNOW WHICH SONG IâM SEQUENCING AFTER THISâ
âSomething About Usâ - Daft Punk
As soon as I heard this track I legit thought my music library switched from Harryâs House to Daft Punk. One of the easiest sequencing assignments Iâve had in years.
âFeels Likeâ - Lucky Daye
Lucky Daye is a rising star in his own right, but his latest track is one I hope Harry Styles has heard and decides to lean into this direction in upcoming albums.
Part Three: Satellite
As we tumble into the second half of the playlist, itâs time to increase the longing, loneliness, and pangs of sadness. Good news: this is one of my sweet spots, so I had no trouble putting this section together.
âI Know Aloneâ - HAIM
âNothing Revealed / Everything Deniedâ - The 1975
Another âthis was a highly-rated song on my year-end playlist so it goes where it goesâ banger. Any time a gospel choir is used in a pop song I will over index it wherever and whenever possible.
Part Four: Grapejuice
Ok, I could have ended the playlist with the last section, but I really liked this song and I wanted it on the playlist so here we are! Bonus: This decision provided yet another excuse to include more Lorde and HAIM! Ugh, if it isnât the excellent consequences from my selfish actions.
âThe Louvreâ - Lorde
This song only has 114M listens on Spotify, so Iâm counting it as a sleeper!
One more thing: If you enjoyed this musical walkthrough, my dear friend Ariel published yet another banger on I Know a Spot (the best Substack publication btw) curating the best active home listings Harry should buy with all his new vinyl and future tour earnings.
She even paired each home listing with songs from Harryâs House I mean câmon yâall you are getting this detail FOR FREE.
