This Week In Jams (TWIJ) is a sequenced weekly playlist featuring songs I think my friends (and future friends like you 😇) may want to hear.
Since I was just in the DMV this weekend to see two wonderful Chicago friends get married, it made sense to continue my Neptunes tribute! This week I'm taking us thru 2000s with the Clipse (a LOT of Clipse, like almost all the Clipse), Missy, Jadakiss, Noreaga, Snoop Dogg, Slim Thug, N.E.R.D, Busta, Kelis, Nelly, Ludacris and more!
Nearly 100 songs produced or inspired by the Neptunes, so dig in below:
Update: If you’re seeing this post now, This Week In Jams has been refreshed. No need to fear, you can find this particular playlist here:
While I love all 97 of these songs, there were a few I wanted to highlight:
Baby – “What Happened To That Boy ft. Clipse”
If we have ever hung out in person while this song is on I am sorry but also you are welcome 🕊🕊🕊 I don’t know if this Neptunes beat qualifies as a deep cut, but it was a thrilling change of pace that only gets better with age.
Slim Thug – “I Ain’t Heard of That (Remix) ft. Bun B”
Spring 2005 me when I first heard this song:
This isn’t unique to the Neptunes, but from the DMV, Chicago, Atlanta, West Coast, and Houston, they are easily top 3 with their ability to provide A+ beats to artists in any region.
Gwen Stefani – “Hollaback Girl”
And not only every region, but across every popular music genre! We were firmly in our post-Drumline every one looking for marching band beats era, so of course the Neptunes provided the type beat to end all beats.
